Campaign on Food Safety

The cost of unsafe food is high. The global food production system is one of the biggest
contributors to greenhouse gas emissions. People today must consider alternative energy
and food sources to limit the depletion of natural resources tomorrow.

Clean, Separate, Cook and Chill Campaign:

Foodborne illness is a serious public health threat and all of us are susceptible.
While everyone is at risk for foodborne illness, there are those that face a higher risk if they
consume unsafe food. At-risk persons include the very young, older adults, pregnant
women, and those with weakened immune systems. These food safety steps are especially
important for them, and the messages of the Be Food Safe campaign can be a life saver.
But the last line of defense against foodborne illness is in our own kitchens. The four basic
safe food handling behaviors — clean, separate, cook, and chill — will keep our food safe.
Food safety risks at home are common.

We should earn more about each of these steps:

 Clean: Wash hands and utensils to avoid spreading bacteria when preparing food.
 Separate:  Separate raw meats from other foods by using different cutting boards.
 Cook: Cook foods to the right temperature by using a food thermometer.
 Chill: Chill raw and prepared foods promptly. Keep the fridge at 40 °F or below to
keep bacteria from growing.

Awareness on presence of information (date of durability)
affecting the safety of users of packaging food:

A ‘use by’ date means the food must be eaten or thrown away by the date. After this date
foods may be unsafe to eat even if they look fine because the nutrients in the food may
become unstable or a build-up of bacteria may occur. It is illegal to sell foods after a ‘use by’
date.
Perishable food like meat, yogurt and eggs often have a ‘use by’ date. If properly
stored, you have a one-week grace period to use up the product. Use-by dates on
yeast or refrigerated dough indicate how long the product will retain its rising power.
Discard infant formula past its ‘use by’ date as the nutritional value may be
compromised.
Our main goal is to create awareness through ‘Clean, Separate, Cook and Chill campaign’ to
protect from food poisoning. Our dedicated volunteer team conducting regular check in the
shortlisted superstores and departmental stores of selected areas. They are observing the
use-by dates on food products to achieve food security for all by ensuring access to high
quality food. We are distributing leaflets and booklets among general people to aware them
about different food safety issues.
